THERESIAN LEADERS: ADVOCATES OF ENVIRONMENTAL REHABILITATION

Two hundred and sixty two Junior and Senior High School Leaders from Grade 7 to Grade 11 breathed new life into the Estero de Santibañez in Paco, Manila, last Saturday, September 17, by tossing Bokashi or Mabuhay Balls into the said creek.

Bokashi Balls or Mabuhay Balls are dried mud balls made up of effective microorganisms, water, salt, and molasses. Once cultured and covered in white fungus, these balls are ready to be thrown into polluted rivers, creeks and lakes. These balls act as cleaning agents that remove bad bacteria and foul odor. The balls likewise promote animal and plant life in the bodies of water.

Responding eagerly to the challenge of the Asian Social Institute for the active participation in the cleaning up of the Metro Manila waterways, these young Theresian leaders sponsored several Mabuhay Balls each, and happily tossed them into the creek. Accompanying their every toss was a fervent prayer for the rehabilitation of Mother Earth.

The activity is part of the ongoing formation of all HS Leaders under the Leadership Enhancement and Development (LEAD) Program. Dr. Guinevere Sacdalan, Moderator or the Theresian Student Council, together with the module facilitators ensured the safety of the students as well as the success of the activity.

Thank you, young Theresian leaders and Theresian educators, for sustaining your advocacy on the care for the environment.

Continue to let your shine and be a blessing to others.
